Language: English

Description: Explore with your students in this year’s Computer Science Education Week, an activity around using math to build roads in a city. Explore how to build your own road to survival by building roads and writing equations to figure out how many blocks are needed. Using various mathematical concepts, students will write simple expressions to record calculations, measure and build their roads.

Objectives:
-Use parentheses, brackets, or braces in numerical expressions, and evaluate expressions with these symbols.
-Write simple expressions that record calculations with numbers and interpret numerical expressions without evaluating them.
-Convert among different-sized standard measurement units within a given measurement system and use these conversions in solving multi-step, real-world problems.
-Generate two numerical patterns using two given rules. Identify apparent relationships between corresponding terms. Form ordered pairs consisting of corresponding terms from the two patterns and graph the ordered pairs on a coordinate plane.
