St. Benedict Elementary School partnered with Logics Academy to create a custom Minecraft Education experience that blended coding, Indigenous teachings, and the school’s core spiritual values. Through the immersive “After the Storm” world, students explored a virtual version of their school community while programming their Agent to complete meaningful recovery tasks. This project empowered learners with STEM skills, strengthened cultural and community connections, and brought St. Benedict’s mission of protection, resilience, and collaboration to life through interactive gameplay.

“Building a virtual school world in Minecraft Education empowered our students to learn, create, and collaborate in ways that brought St. Benedict School’s spirit to life. It transformed classrooms into communities, inspired problem-solving through coding, and showed students that learning can be both innovative and deeply connected to a digital landscape.”

Challenge

St. Benedict Elementary School wanted to create an engaging, culturally rich learning experience that would teach students problem-solving, resilience, and community values. The school aimed to integrate Indigenous teachings, spiritual values, and STEM skills into a single immersive activity. The challenge was to design an experience that not only restored a sense of protection and belonging but also honored the school’s namesake, St. Benedict—the Saint of Protection—while fostering collaboration and critical thinking.

Solution

Logics Academy developed a custom Minecraft Education experience called “After the Storm.” Students navigated a virtual town map centered around St. Benedict Elementary School, programming their Agent to complete post-storm recovery tasks. Guided by St. Benedict and supported by non-playable characters (NPCs) representing school staff and Indigenous leaders, students tackled three key challenges. The experience blended coding, cultural education, and spiritual reflection, creating a holistic learning environment that connected technology with tradition.

Results

The Minecraft experience transformed learning at St. Benedict Elementary by enhancing engagement, promoting cultural awareness, building STEM skills, and strengthening community values. Indigenous teachings and spiritual values were woven into gameplay, fostering respect and understanding. Programming the Agent strengthened computational thinking and coding proficiency. Activities reinforced resilience, gratitude, and shared responsibility, aligning with the school’s mission. The project successfully combined education, culture, and innovation, leaving a lasting impact on both students and staff.
