Challenge
Across many First Nations communities, youth engagement in language learning remains a challenge. MFNERC and New Media Manitoba sought to inspire students to reconnect with their ancestral language, Anishinaabemowin, through contemporary platforms that reflect how they play, socialize, and create today. They needed an interactive, culturally grounded learning experience that would foster pride, understanding, and everyday use of the language without feeling like a traditional classroom lesson.
Solution
In partnership with New Media Manitoba and MFNERC, Logics Academy is developing The Anishinaabemowin Fortnite Experience—a first-of-its-kind language learning world built in Fortnite’s Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) platform.
- Through immersive gameplay and storytelling, learners explore teachings guided by Elders and Knowledge Keepers, collect words and phrases through quests, and interact with community-inspired characters and landscapes that reflect authentic Anishinaabe culture.
Logics supported the full development process, from gameplay design and narrative scripting to audio and video capture with real community voices, educator guide development, and curriculum-aligned resources that extend the learning beyond gameplay.

Results
Launching in Winter 2026, The Anishinaabemowin Fortnite Experience represents a major leap forward in Indigenous language revitalization through digital game-based learning. Once released, it will be accessible to educators and students across Manitoba and beyond, offering a vibrant, interactive pathway to preserve and celebrate language and culture.
This project continues Logics Academy’s ongoing commitment to developing inclusive, culturally responsive digital learning experiences through collaboration with Indigenous partners across Canada.
