The Use Case model is built on real-world Problems of Practice faced by students, staff and educators in K–12 and post-secondary districts and institutions across the country. Its success is built upon mentoring and coaching relationships grounded in learner-centred inquiry that are intentional and target impact and wellbeing. Media-rich Use Cases deepen culture and coherence and are leading to further network inquiry where big changes begin to stick.

The Challenge

Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada (BGC Canada) was looking for ways for club educators and students to build on their digital literacy and coding skills by exploring more advanced topics throughout their Kid Tech Nation (KTN) programs. KTN 1 and 2 programs were developed in 2017 followed by KTN 3, also known as Climate Coders, in 2023. BGC was interested in updating the language and concepts used in manuals 1 and 2 to align with today’s technology conforms, as well as adapting to a similar look and feel as Climate Coders.

The Solution

As Canada’s largest youth-serving organization, BGC Clubs work within communities to provide safe, supportive places where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships, and develop confidence and skills for life. With that in mind, and through the generous support of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, Logics Academy was contemplating unique ways of modernizing the Kid Tech Nation programs to impact the club experience for the near future. Logics took on the task of aligning KTN manuals to today’s technology by assembling a team of learning experience developers and graphic designers to create the best possible program that clubs will use now and into the future.

The Results

In partnership with BGC Canada, Logics Academy has developed refreshed manuals for KTN 1 and 2 that incorporates recommendations from external and internal evaluation reports which helps create a natural transition pathway to Climate Coders. Logics has also adapted a similar graphic look and feel of the refreshed books and developed training guides and video tutorials to ensure club facilitators are comfortable with delivering the content. Through this work, it helped solidify the partnership between Logics and BGC Canada and together, look forward to more work together.
